Diwali is the ancient Hindu ‘festival of lights’. Celebrated by millions of people in India and all around the world, the five-day festival represents the triumph of light over darkness and knowledge over ignorance.
The annual event marks the beginning of the Hindu New Year in October or November, with the date changing in accordance with the Hindu lunar calendar.
The medallion’s reverse portrays representations of Lakshmi sitting on a lotus flower, the symbol of enlightenment, and Ganesha. Gilded elements of the design comprise hanging lamps, the gods’ ornate headdresses and neckpieces, as well as the coins and sweets displayed in their bowls.
Additionally, the artistry includes stylised star bursts symbolising the light from diyas. The design includes the inscription happy diwali, the medallion’s weight and fineness, and The Perth Mint’s traditional ‘P’ mintmark.
The medallion is housed in a contemporary latex case within a beautifully illustrated shipper and is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.
