The iconic red kangaroo design featured on the 25th anniversary commemorative was originally introduced as part of the Australian Nugget gold coin program as the new theme for the 1989 Proof Issue, and was designed by Dr Stuart Devlin AO CMG, goldsmith and jeweller to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
Only 400 of the 2014 Australian Kangaroo 25th Anniversary Five-Coin Collections will be released.
Struck by The Perth Mint from 99.99% pure gold in proof quality, and issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965, these releases are a spectacular and limited offering.
The reverse of each coin portrays a bounding red kangaroo surrounded by stylised rays of sunlight, and bordered by the inscription AUSTRALIAN KANGAROO, the weight, 9999 GOLD and the year-dates 1989 – 2014. A special Perth Mint anniversary mintmark ‘P25’ also appears in the design. Each coin’s obverse features the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the monetary denomination and 2014 year-date.
The individual coins are housed in a special black display case, featuring a wooden lid. They are presented in an illustrated shipper and accompanied by a numbered Certificate of Authenticity.
