This extraordinary 5oz silver proof high relief coin showcases an Australian Wedge-tailed Eagle.
With a wingspan of up to 2.5 metres, the distinctive raptor is easily identified by its wedge-shaped tail and legs feathered down to its feet. Observed throughout mainland Australia and in the island state of Tasmania, it can soar tirelessly for hours at altitudes of 2,000 metres and beyond on thermal air currents rising from Australia’s sun-baked terrain.
The coin’s design portrays a wedge-tailed eagle soaring. The raptor appears on a background featuring geometrically arranged elements that suggest a sunburst. As well as the inscriptions ‘AUSTRALIAN WEDGE-TAILED EAGLE’ and ‘10TH ANNIVERSARY’, the reverse includes a ‘P125’ mintmark signifying The Perth Mint’s 125th anniversary in 2024. Also included is the coin’s weight, purity, and year-date.
The obverse depicts the Dan Thorne effigy of His Majesty King Charles III, and the monetary denomination. Also included is a privy mark depicting a wedge-tailed eagle about to land on a tree branch, representing the first coin design in this series.
The coin is housed in a classic display case within an illustrated shipper and accompanied by a numbered Certificate of Authenticity.
