In 2018 we celebrate the eleventh animal in the 12-year cycle of the Chinese zodiac.
The birth dates for people ruled by the Chinese Lunar dog include 1922, 1934, 1946, 1958, 1970, 1982, 1994, 2006 and 2018. Those born under the influence of this sign are said to be loyal, amiable, kind and friendly.
Struck by The Perth Mint from 1oz of 99.99% pure silver, each coin is issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965. No more than 9,000 of the 2018 Year of the Dog 1oz Silver Proof Coloured Edition will be released in individual packaging.
The design features a coloured German Shepherd dog and pup lying in grass with Chinese peony flowers in the background. The Chinese character for ‘dog’ and the inscription ‘Year of the Dog’ also appear in the design with The Perth Mint’s traditional ‘P’ mintmark. The Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the 2018 year-date, and the monetary denomination are shown on the coin’s obverse.
Each coin is housed in a stylish red and black display case within an illustrated lunar-themed shipper, and is accompanied by a numbered Certificate of Authenticity.
