In 2018, The Perth Mint’s internationally renowned Australian Lunar Gold Proof Coin Series II celebrates the Year of the Dog, the eleventh animal in the 12-year cycle of the Chinese zodiac.
The birth dates for people ruled by the Chinese Lunar dog include 1922, 1934, 1946, 1958, 1970, 1982, 1994, 2006 and 2018. Those born under the influence of this sign are said to be loyal, amiable, kind and friendly.
Struck from 99.99% pure gold in proof quality, The Perth Mint will release only 5,000 coins in this packaging. The coins are issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965.
This beautiful design features a Labrador Retriever standing on rocks and featuring a stylised pine tree in the background. The Chinese character for ‘dog’ and the inscription ‘Year of the Dog’ also appear in the design with The Perth Mint’s traditional ‘P’ mintmark. The Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the 2018 year-date and the monetary denomination are shown on each coin’s obverse.
The coin is presented in an elegant oval-shaped display case, featuring a glossy timber-effect lid and presented in a coloured themed shipper. A numbered Certificate of Authenticity accompanies the coin.
