This year’s gemstone edition from the Australian Lunar Silver Coin Series II features the dog, the 11th of the 12 animals associated with the ancient Chinese Lunar Calendar.
The birth dates for people ruled by the Chinese Lunar dog include 1922, 1934, 1946, 1958, 1970, 1982, 1994, 2006 and 2018. Those born under the influence of this sign are said to be loyal, amiable, kind and friendly.
A superb gift or collectable, the coin is meticulously struck by The Perth Mint from 1 kilo of 99.99% pure silver and features a spectacular blue sapphire. The Perth Mint will release no more than 500 of the 2018 Year of the Dog 1 Kilo Silver Gemstone Edition.
The design features a coloured German shepherd dog and pup lying in grass with Chinese peony flowers in the background. The dog has a blue sapphire set into its eye. The Chinese character for ‘dog’ and the inscription ‘Year of the Dog’ also appear in the design with The Perth Mint’s traditional ‘P’ mintmark.
The Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the 2018 year-date and the monetary denomination are shown on the coin’s obverse.
The coin is housed in a classic black and red display case and themed shipper and is accompanied by a numbered Certificate of Authenticity.
