The third release in the popular Looney Tunes coin series features TWEETY BIRD.
TWEETY was originally created by Bob Clampett and first appeared in A Tale of Two Kitties in 1942 when he was pitted against two hungry cats Babbit and Catsello, who were based on popular comedians.
TWEETY started his life as a pugnacious personality with little sympathy for his enemies but was eventually softened by Friz Freleng.
Since starring in 47 original Looney Tunes cartoons, TWEETY has appeared in The Sylvester and Tweety Mysteries on the Kids’ WB network, and in Cartoon Network’s and Boomerang’s The Looney Tunes Show with his animated co-stars, as well as New Looney Tunes.
The reverse design features TWEETY sitting within the concentric rings of the Looney Tunes logo, with his hands resting on his rounded cheeks. The design also includes the inscription TWEETY BIRD and The Perth Mint’s traditional ‘P’ mintmark. The Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the 2018 year-date and the monetary denomination are depicted on the coin’s obverse.
Struck by The Perth Mint from 1/2oz of 99.99% pure silver, the coin is issued as legal tender under the authority of the Government of Tuvalu. The Perth Mint will release no more than 5,000 of the 2018 Looney Tunes - Tweety Bird 1/2oz Silver Proof Coin.
Each coin is presented in a clear acrylic case, allowing both sides of the coin to be displayed, and is packaged within a themed shipper. The coin is accompanied by a numbered Certificate of Authenticity.
