2018 ANZAC Spirit - The Hall Of Memory 5oz Silver Antiqued Coin

The Hall of Memory lies at the heart of the Australian War Memorial. Shaped like an octagon, the interior of the hall features 15 stained glass windows on three sides, with each window divided into five panels. Each of the 15 window panels features a figure in the uniform with equipment of the First World War and typifies one of the quintessential qualities displayed by Australians in war.*

The stained glass windows and other key elements of the Hall of Memory, including the tesserae mosaics and the Byzantine dome, were designed by the Australian artist Napier Waller (1893-1972). Napier Waller was a First World War veteran who lost his right arm in May 1917 at Bullecourt in France.

Struck by The Perth Mint from 5oz of 99.99% pure silver, the coin is issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965 and has a maximum mintage of only 300.

This truly remarkable design depicts four of the stained glass windows in the Hall of Memory including, audacity, devotion, comradeship and chivalry. In the centre of the design is a coloured representation of the Byzantine dome. The design includes the inscriptions AUDACITY, DEVOTION, COMRADESHIP and CHIVALRY, as well as The Perth Mint’s traditional ‘P’ mintmark. The coin’s obverse depicts the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the 2018 year-date and the monetary denomination.

Each coin will be presented in a black and red themed display case featuring the words PRIDE, RESPECT, and GRATITUDE on the outside of the case, within a themed shipper, and accompanied by a numbered Certificate of Authenticity.
