The next coin in the charming Polar Babies series features the cute harp seal.
Harp seal pups are famous for their bright, snowy white coats which help them to blend into their surroundings, hiding them from predators and keeping them warm at the same time. When the pups reach three weeks of age, their fluffy white coat starts to moult, revealing a darker, silvery grey coloured fur.
These incredible creatures are named for the pattern that forms on their back as they grow older which resembles a harp. This pattern is most distinct on male harp seals.
Struck by The Perth Mint from 1/2oz of 99.99% silver in proof quality, and issued as legal tender under the authority of the Government of Tuvalu. The design features a harp seal pup resting on ice. The inscription HARP SEAL, and The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark, also appear in the design. The coin’s obverse depicts the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the 2017 year-date, and the monetary denomination.
Displayed in a classic presentation case, the coin is delivered in a delightful illustrated shipper with a numbered Certificate of Authenticity.
