Horses are highly social creatures that love the company of other horses. They are herd animals, with each herd made up of small groups known as ‘bands’. Each band usually consists of one dominant stallion, mares, and juveniles.
Horses naturally seek a leader for the herd who will lead and protect them against predators. The leader is usually an older mare, who will direct the herd to safety, food and water.
