In 2016, The Perth Mint’s internationally renowned Australian Lunar Gold Proof Coin Series II celebrates the Year of the Monkey, the ninth animal in the 12-year cycle of the Chinese zodiac.
The birth dates for people ruled by the Chinese Lunar monkey include 1920, 1932, 1944, 1956, 1968, 1980, 1992, 2004 and 2016. Those born under the influence of this sign are said to be intelligent, quick-witted, optimistic, ambitious, and adventurous.
Meticulously struck from 99.99% pure gold in proof quality, no more than 5,000 1/4oz coins will be released in this packaging.
Each coin is issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965.
Each coin’s reverse depicts an adult monkey sitting on a branch of a peach tree, which is symbolic of longevity and immortality. The Chinese character for ‘monkey’ and the inscription ‘Year of the Monkey’ also appear in the design with The Perth Mint’s traditional ‘P’ mintmark. The Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the 2016 year-date and monetary denomination are shown on the coin’s obverse.
Gold Proof Lunar coins from The Perth Mint are housed in elegant oval-shaped display cases, featuring a glossy timber-effect lid and presented in coloured illustrated shipper.
A numbered Certificate of Authenticity accompanies the 1/4oz coin.
