In 2016, The Perth Mint’s internationally renowned Australian Lunar Gold Proof Coin Series II celebrates the Year of the Monkey, the ninth animal in the 12-year cycle of the Chinese zodiac.
The birth dates for people ruled by the Chinese Lunar monkey include 1920, 1932, 1944, 1956, 1968, 1980, 1992, 2004 and 2016.
Those born under the influence of this sign are said to be intelligent, quick-witted, optimistic, ambitious, and adventurous.
Meticulously struck from 99.99% pure gold in proof quality, no more than 5,000 of the 2016 Year Of The Monkey 1/10oz Gold Proof Coloured Coin will be released. The coin is issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965.
The coin’s reverse depicts a coloured adult monkey sitting on a branch of a peach tree, which is symbolic of longevity and immortality. The Chinese character for ‘monkey’ and the inscription ‘Year of the Monkey’ also appear in the design with The Perth Mint’s traditional ‘P’ mintmark.
The Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the 2016 year-date and monetary denomination are shown on the coin’s obverse.
Gold Proof Coloured Lunar coins are individually housed in elegant oval-shaped display cases, each featuring a glossy timber-effect lid and presented in a coloured illustrated shipper. Each coin is accompanied by a numbered Certificate of Authenticity.
