The fourth release in this adorable series features white lion cubs.
The white lion is found in the Timbavati region of South Africa. While the colour of their coat is a white, blonde colour, much lighter than the tawny African lion, they are in fact the same species. Their white coat is a result of a recessive gene carried by both their parents. As a result, a lioness can give birth to both white and tawny coloured cubs in the same litter.
The coin is struck by The Perth Mint from 1/2oz of 99.9% pure silver in proof quality.
The Perth Mint will release no more than 5,000 of The Cubs – White Lion Cubs 2016 1/2oz Silver Proof Coin.
The coin’s reverse features two coloured white lion cubs playing in the grass in the savannah. The inscription CUBS and The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark also appear in the design. The coin’s obverse depicts the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the 2016 year-date and the monetary denomination.
This coin is housed in a classic Perth Mint presentation case within a themed, customised shipper and is accompanied by a numbered Certificate of Authenticity.
