The RSL was founded in Australia in 1916 by returning soldiers from World War I with the aim of continuing to provide the camaraderie, concern, and mateship shown amongst the Australian diggers while they were at war.
The objective of the RSL is to ensure that adequate care, compensation and commemoration is provided to returning servicemen and women, as well as those currently serving in the Australian Defence Force.
The Perth Mint and Australia Post are pleased to celebrate this anniversary with a stunning Stamp and Coin Cover.
Issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965, the uncirculated aluminium bronze coin is housed in a beautifully designed card with a circular window revealing the coin’s reverse and obverse designs.
The coin's reverse designs depict a representation of the RSL badge with the inscriptions RSL CENTENARY LEST WE FORGET and ‘1916 2016’. The design also includes The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark. The Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the monetary denomination, and the 2016 year-date, are featured on the coin’s obverses.
Affixed to the envelope is an official Australia Post $1.00 stamp. The stamp is postmarked for the first day of issue and the envelope includes Australia Post’s Seal of Authenticity.
