The Mickey Through the Ages coin collection celebrates the much-loved Disney character Mickey Mouse and his cartoon career through the decades.
The Band Concert (1935) was the first Mickey Mouse cartoon released in colour, making it an immediate success.
It tells the story of Mickey, a frustrated bandleader, who must deal with the obnoxious, flute playing concessions vendor - Donald Duck - who wrecks Mickey’s concert by playing "Turkey in the Straw" on a succession of fifes.
Every time Mickey has things under control for his band's rendition of the William Tell Overture, Donald pipes up again with "Turkey in the Straw", and the musicians unerringly begin to follow him.
The determined bandleader Mickey finally manages to complete his concert, to the last duck standing in the audience, Donald.
The Mickey Mouse - The Band Concert 0.5g Gold Coin is uniquely presented on an attractive, printed card. The Certificate of Authenticity is printed on the card reverse.
The New Zealand Mint will release no more than 5,000 of the 2016 Mickey Through the Ages - The Band Concert 0.5g Gold Coin.
