Once, Grizzly Bears inhabited the entire west of North America and the Great Plains. Today they can be found in the wilds of Canada and Alaska and only about 1,000 remain wild in the continental U.S., where they are protected by law. Every year, dozens of Grizzly Bears congregate by some of Alaska’s remote rivers, as the salmon run upstream for summer spawning. They feast on the fish and collect necessary fats to last the long winter hibernation ahead.
