2016 ANZAC Spirit - ANZAC Day 100 Years 1/4oz Gold Proof Coin

Australia’s first Anzac Day took place on 25 April 1916, one year after the landing of Australian and New Zealand troops at Gallipoli, the first major military action fought by Australian and New Zealand forces during the First World War.

The date, 25 April, was officially given the name ‘Anzac Day’ in 1916.

Struck by The Perth Mint from 1/4oz of 99.99% pure gold, the coin is issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965.

The Perth Mint will release no more than 1,000 of The Anzac Spirit 100th Anniversary Coin Series – 2016 Anzac Day 100 Years 1/4oz Gold Proof Coin.

The coin’s reverse depicts an Australian soldier leaning on his gun with his head bowed in remembrance. The design includes a red poppy, the inscriptions ANZAC DAY 100 YEARS and PRIDE RESPECT GRATITUDE, as well as The Perth Mint’s traditional ‘P’ mintmark.

The coin's obverse depicts the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the 2016 year-date, and the monetary denomination.

Each coin will be presented in a black and red themed display case featuring the words ‘PRIDE’, ‘RESPECT’, and ‘GRATITUDE’ on the outside of the case, within a themed shipper.
