By 1918, after the Germans launched an offensive that ended the stalemate of trench warfare, the allied armies launched their own counter-offensive that paved the way to victory. Beginning at Hamel on 4 July 1918, the Australians fought a series of highly successful combined-armed battles that succeeded in breaking the Hindenburg Line. They advanced deep into German-occupied territory, and fought their last action of the war at Montbrehain several weeks before the armistice on 11 November 1918.

Struck by The Perth Mint from 99.9% pure silver in proof quality, each coin is issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965.

Just 5,000 of The Anzac Spirit 100th Anniversary Coin Series 2016 1/2oz Silver Proof Three-Coin Set will be released by The Perth Mint.

Brothers in Arms
The coin’s reverse depicts a representation of one of the original Thuillier photographs featuring a white Australian soldier alongside an unknown Indigenous Australian soldier, taken at the Thuillier’s farmhouse in Vignacourt during the First World War. The design also includes a red poppy, the inscription ‘1916 – BROTHERS in ARMS, and The Perth Mint’s traditional ‘P’ mintmark.

The individuals featured in the reverse design are now deceased.

Lost but not Forgotten
The coin’s reverse depicts a representation of Peter Corlett’s Cobbers statue, which resides near Fromelles. The design features a colour representation of the fields of Fromelles, alongside a black and white representation of no man’s land as it was during the First World War. The design also includes a red poppy, the inscription ‘1916 – LOST but not FORGOTTEN, and The Perth Mint’s traditional ‘P’ mintmark.

Australia’s First Anzac Day
The coin’s reverse depicts an image of the Roll of Honour at the Australian War Memorial in Canberra. The design also includes a red poppy, the inscription ‘1916 – AUSTRALIA’S first ANZAC DAY’, and The Perth Mint’s traditional ‘P’ mintmark.

The obverse of each coin depicts the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the year-date, the monetary denomination, and the coin’s weight and fineness.

Edged lettering features around the coin’s rim with the words, “PRIDE • RESPECT • GRATITUDE •”.

The 2016 Three-Coin Set is presented in a round plastic tray which fits inside a beautifully illustrated shipper featuring First World War photography, and is accompanied by a booklet containing information and imagery from the Great War. The booklet contains a numbered Certificate of Authenticity.
