The koala is a well-known marsupial of Australia. Being nocturnal, this unique animal takes refuge from the harsh southern sun and is able to graze on gum leaves by living in eucalypt forests.
Although they live in societies, individual koalas are territorial of their home range of trees, which provide them with food, shelter and places for social contact.
The cute and cuddly koala is featured on this stunning 5oz high relief silver coin.
Struck by The Perth Mint from 5oz of 99.9% pure silver in proof quality, each coin is issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965. The Perth Mint will release no more than 5,000 of the 2015 Australian Koala 5oz Silver Proof High Relief Coin.
The coin's reverse depicts an adult koala sitting in the fork of a eucalyptus tree, amid a rural landscape. The design includes the inscription AUSTRALIAN KOALA, The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark, and the 2015 year-date. The Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the monetary denomination are depicted on the coin’s obverse.
The coin’s high relief reverse and obverse are minted on concave surfaces to ensure the optimum flow of metal is achieved by the strike of the die.
Each coin is housed in a classic grey display case with a specially designed illustrated shipper and accompanied by a numbered Certificate of Authenticity.
