By the end of the Great War more than 416,000 Australian men had enlisted from a population of fewer than 5 million, representing approximately 38.7% of the total male population aged between 18 and 44.
Over the past 100 years, there have been many poignant symbols and phrases that have come to be associated with military loss. This spectacular 1 kilo coin commemorates Australia’s fallen soldiers and features the many burial sites around the world where our soldiers have been laid to rest.
Struck by The Perth Mint from 1 kilo of 99.9% pure silver in proof quality, the coin is issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965.
The Perth Mint will release no more than 500 of The ANZAC Spirit 100th Anniversary Coin Series – Lest We Forget 2015 1 Kilo Silver Proof Coin.
The coin’s reverse features a coloured image of a Fallen Soldier Battle Cross with the sun rising in the background. The image is framed by a list of words and phrases, and the names of battlefields and cemeteries, associated with the First World War. The design includes The Perth Mint’s traditional ‘P’ mintmark.
The coin's obverse depicts the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the 2015 year-date, and the monetary denomination.
Each coin will be presented in a black and red themed display case featuring the words ‘PRIDE’, ‘RESPECT’, and ‘GRATITUDE’ on the outside of the case, within a themed shipper.
