The Minmi is the fourth coin in this exciting new five-coin series featuring Australian dinosaurs that existed in the Cretaceous Period between 112 and 102 million years ago.
Minmi was a quadruped which walked on all four legs, although its hind legs were slightly longer than its front legs.
At only three metres long, this dinosaur was small by armoured dinosaur standards and would have browsed on ferns and other low growing plants. Minmi possessed a horny beak with which it would have been able to selectively nip off small fruits and seeds.
The coin is struck by The Perth Mint from 1oz of 99.9% pure silver in proof quality, and is issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965.
The Perth Mint will release no more than 5,000 of the Australian Age of Dinosaurs – Minmi 2015 1oz Silver Proof Coloured Coin.
The coin’s reverse depicts the Australian dinosaur Minmi paravertebra set against colourful, prehistoric vegetation. The inscription MINMI, the coin’s weight and purity, and The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark are also incorporated into the design. The coin’s obverse depicts the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the 2015 year-date, and the monetary denomination.
This coin is housed in The Perth Mint’s grey presentation case with a wonderfully illustrated shipper, and is accompanied by a numbered Certificate of Authenticity.
