The ‘Mickey & Friends’ Disney Collectible coin series includes one coin of each of the much loved Disney Classic characters.
Donald Fauntleroy Duck is the most prolific of all the Disney characters in terms of his number of appearances, total screen time, and comic book career.
An anthropomorphic white duck, Donald wears a sailor suit with a bow tie, and is known for his short temper.
He is a loveable show-off, however, Donald’s love of bragging often takes him over his head, usually to hilarious effect. ‘Who? Me? Oh, no, I’ve got a bellyache’, are eight words from The Wise Little Hen (1934) that introduced one of the most popular Disney cartoon characters.
Donald’s distinctive voice was created by Clarence Nash, who performed the role for 50 years. In 2004, Donald was recognised with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
In collaboration, Disney and New Zealand Mint offer these stunning 1oz silver proof coins to celebrate Disney’s most beloved characters.
Struck by The Perth Mint and issued by New Zealand Mint as legal tender under the authority of Niue Island, only 10,000 of each 1oz silver proof coin design will be released worldwide.
The reverse of each coin features an iconic coloured image of each of the ‘Mickey & Friends’ characters. Each character is set against a struck representation of a film strip and a proof quality table. Each coin’s obverse features the Ian Rank-Broadly effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the 2014 year-date and the monetary denomination.
Each coin is individually presented in a Perspex case allowing for 360 degree presentation. The coin case is surrounded by film-themed outer packaging illustrating the history of the character. All six outer packages illustrations align to one continuous background image, when displayed.
The Certificate of Authenticity is displayed on top of the Perspex case, within the outer packaging.
