Garnet is a gemstone that has been known to man for thousands of years. According to legend, Noah is purported to have used a garnet lantern to help him steer his ark through the dark night. Many early travellers liked to carry a garnet with them, as it was thought to be a talisman and protective stone. Garnets are also found in examples of jewellery from early Egyptian, Greek and Roman times.
Classic garnet is red in colour and the stone is believed to symbolise passion, fidelity, loyalty, faith and truth. The garnet is also an ancient symbol of true friendship.
